what is the Randstad Award?

In today's highly competitive job market, employer branding is a crucial tool for attracting and retaining the right kind of talent. Employer branding helps you recruit highly-skilled and promising new employees and it enhances their loyalty by increasing their identification with the company. It also raises an organization’s visibility in the job market and makes it stand out from the competition.

The Randstad Award is presented each year to the most attractive employer in various countries across the globe.

unique in the world

The Randstad Award is not just another prize for the trophy cabinet. The winner is based on the outcome of the world’s largest survey into employer branding and it is the only prize representing ‘the people’s choice’.

This means that the outcome is only based on public perception, i.e. what the public really thinks about the participating companies. We recognize that companies with a lower public profile could be at a disadvantage compared to large companies, with their higher name recognition. So, to create a level playing field, the Randstad Award focuses on three main areas: overall brand awareness, absolute attractiveness and relative attractiveness.

survey information

At present 23 countries are taking part in the main regions where Randstad is active: Europe, Asia/Pacific and the Americas. The 150 largest companies are selected in each of those countries. The selection criterion is companies with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents: nearly 10,000 employees and job-seekers between the ages of 18-65. There is a slight emphasis on people under 40 because the survey’s main target audience is potential employees. (In very small countries, the number of selected companies is 75 and the number of respondents 4,000.)

Unlike similar surveys, HR officers, staff members or experts are not invited to take part in the survey, which guarantees maximum objectivity. The respondents are asked to identify the companies they recognize and to indicate whether or not they would like to work for them. In the next step, they evaluate the relative attractiveness of each of the selected companies based on 10 key factors.

How is the winner determined?

The winner of the Global Randstad Award is elected from a list of top 50 largest global companies

based on a set of objective criteria:

largest number of employees
corporate/profit (governmental organizations are excluded)
operating in at least 25 countries
same company name in alle countries
at least 30% of their employees works outside the base country
The winner is the one with the highest relative attractiveness across 22 countries (Luxembourg is excluded), determined by the question:

"Would you like to work for this company?"

To balance the impact of the different countries and reflect the actual economic reality a weighting on GDP (gross domestic product) is applied after consolidating the data.
