More than six years ago, Harvard Business Review carried a very interesting and groundbreaking article on the uneven management sex ratio. The author asserted that the disparity arose not because women were disinterested or incapable of breaking the glass ceiling, but due to our inability to discern between the prejudiced stereotypes of confidence and competence. Because men believe that they are smarter, they seem more confident – and we wrongly read this confidence as competence.
