About the role
The Data Science and AI Developer Lead serves as the technical and operational focal point for Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists based in India, ensuring their work aligns with the standards, practices, and engineering excellence defined by the AI Platform team. This role exists to empower and support direct reports in delivering high-impact generative AI and data science solutions, fostering a culture of innovation, safe experimentation, and continuous improvement. By flexibly deploying AI talent across Pods, the role maximises the value and effectiveness of the India-based team, enabling rapid, scalable, and responsible AI and data science product delivery that advances Woodside's strategic objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Technical leadership and day-to-day oversight of Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists based in India.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists ensuring alignment with AI Platform standards and practices.
- Facilitating the flexible deployment of Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists to support delivery and execution across existing Pods.
- Coach, mentor, and support Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists fostering a culture of engineering excellence, safe experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure consistently apply shared ways of working, standards, and best practices as set by the AI Tech Chapter Lead.
- Coordinate with Pod Leads and the AI Tech Chapter Lead to allocate Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists resources to Pods based on delivery needs and priorities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Senior AI Developers, AI Tech Leads and Data Scientists, helping them translate business objectives into scalable, secure, and reusable solutions.
- Monitor and manage risk and quality, ensuring compliance with enterprise-grade standards and responsible AI principles.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, documentation, and peer learning within the India AI Developer community.
- Act as the focal point for feedback, escalation, and communication between India-based AI Developers and the broader AI Tech Chapter.
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in AI development, with a strong focus on Generative AI (GenAI) technologies and applications.
- Hands-on expertise in Python and GenAI frameworks (such as OpenAI, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and building scalable solutions within those environments, well-architected farmwork and CI/CD practices
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical teams, ideally in a distributed or matrixed environment.
- Strong understanding of prompt engineering, fine-tuning large language models, and deploying GenAI solutions in production.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture and drive engineering excellence.
- Experience working in environments that value iterative delivery, safe experimentation, and rapid learning.
