Role: DGM / GM - MRO Purchase
Location: Kolkata
Role Summary
The DGM / GM - MRO will lead the end-to-end procurement and commercial management of Maintenance, Repair and Operations requirements for the Company, covering engineering spares, electricals, mechanicals, instrumentation, bearings, lubricants, tools, consumables, safety items, refractory and allied plant requirements, together with applicable repair, service, AMC / ARC and maintenance-support contracts.
...
This is a strategic MRO leadership role, not merely a purchase-order processing role. The successful candidate will be expected to improve plant reliability through stronger sourcing, critical-spares planning, alternate-vendor development, total-cost negotiation, inventory optimisation, master-data
discipline and cross-functional coordination with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, Stores and Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
MRO Sourcing Strategy & Category Management
Develop annual and medium-term sourcing strategies for MRO categories based on spend, criticality, consumption, asset population, maintenance plans and business continuity requirements.
Create category strategies for mechanical spares, electricals, instrumentation, bearings, lubricants, tools, PPE / safety items, consumables, refractory, fabrication items and other plant-support requirements as applicable.
Determine the right sourcing model across OEM, authorised distributor, approved alternate manufacturer, local development, rate contract, annual contract and spot procurement.
Consolidate fragmented spend and standardise commonly used items across locations wherever technically and commercially feasible.
Critical Spares, Breakdown Support & Plant Reliability
Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to identify critical spares whose non-availability can result in prolonged equipment downtime, safety exposure or production loss.
Establish sourcing and stocking strategies for critical, insurance and long-lead spares, with clear replenishment norms and supplier commitments.
Ensure fast-track procurement support during genuine breakdowns while maintaining appropriate commercial controls, traceability and post-facto review of emergency purchases.
Analyse repeat emergency purchases and convert recurring breakdown requirements into planned contracts, stocking norms or alternate-source solutions.
Commercial Negotiation & Total Cost Management
Lead negotiations covering price, freight, taxes and duties, credit terms, warranties, performance guarantees, service support, replacement obligations, lead time and other commercial conditions.Evaluate total cost of ownership rather than basic purchase price, including equipment life, quality, energy impact, failure frequency, repairability, service response and inventory carrying cost.Build should-cost, historical-price, OEM-versus-alternate and repair-versus-replace analyses for major MRO categories.
Track negotiated savings, cost avoidance, price variance and commercial benefits with transparent supporting logic.
Inventory, Codification & Working Capital
Work with Stores, Maintenance and Finance to optimise MRO inventory without compromising asset reliability or plant continuity.
Review min-max levels, reorder points, lead times, non-moving items, slow-moving inventory, duplicate stock and excess quantities.
Drive item codification, specification clarity, duplicate-code elimination and standard naming conventions to improve MRO master-data quality.
Support rationalisation of obsolete or surplus spares through consumption planning, inter-unit transfer, repair, return-to-vendor or approved disposal routes.
Supplier Development, Localisation & Alternate Sourcing
Develop a competitive supplier base for critical MRO categories, balancing OEM reliability with technically acceptable alternate sources.
Identify localisation and import-substitution opportunities in partnership with Maintenance, Engineering and Quality, where applicable.
Qualify new vendors through technical evaluation, trials, performance monitoring and documented approval processes.
Reduce single-source and proprietary-vendor dependence wherever technically feasible without compromising reliability or safety.
