Role Profile

In the role of Data Lead you will lead a team of analysts responsible for researching, validating and updating company and vessel ownership structures, vessel characteristics & movement patterns, as well as maritime areas & facilities. You are expected to maintain a broad understanding of Lloyd’s List Intelligence data and products, and most importantly how these benefit our customers, achieving awareness and competence within your team. Equipped with this knowledge, you and the team will also provide responses to customer queries related to vessel data, AIS data and methodology, complex ownership structures, as well as sanctions and compliance risks. You will be responsible for the team actioning data review requests, ensuring all relevant data items area researched and updated as per outlined team Objectives & Key Results, whilst queries are answered within agreed Service Level Agreements. Within the remit of this role is a key focus on deliver on data quality programmes across several data areas in a timely manner, as well as resolving client and internal stakeholder queries, in line with the business OKRs. The Data Operations Lead will be responsible for training & line-managing a team of Maritime Data Analysts. They will act as the primary point of support, being responsible for triage of requests, and if necessary, escalation to the relevant teams.
This a full-time permanent role reporting to the Data Operations Manager.
This role is permanent and is to be based 5 days a week at our office in Chennai, India.
Key Responsibilities
... - Lead a team of data analysts maintaining timely and accurate updates to Lloyd’s List Intelligence database, being responsible for analysts’ onboarding and training.
- Research and investigate complex datasets, including fundamental vessel data, vessel movements, voyage risks and other related data areas in risk and compliance, acting as a subject matter expert with full knowledge of in-house methodology across the wider maritime data team.
- Review and validate AIS tracking data, responding to customer queries on vessel movements.
- Review and update entries within our Geospatial database, including but not limited to Ports, Terminals & Berths, as well as High-Risk Areas.
- Monitor and respond to inbound queries, as well as non-customer and internal requests, ensuring these are handled in an efficient and timely manner, capturing & escalating actionable feedback.
- Ensure data quality KPIs and daily tasks are met; suggest & implement ways to improve processes and efficiency working within our COACT data quality framework
- Timely delivery of existing Data Quality Programmes, offering proactive solutions and process improvements and reporting to divisional management.
- Identify and escalate any data quality issues quickly and proactively, providing potential solutions
- Develop a deep understanding of the different customer groups and how they rely on our insight and services
- Lead on analysts’ training & onboarding, output quality control, offer feedback and expertise when needed, as well and mentoring and support , whilst addressing performance issues.[MS1]
- Keep abreast of emerging market trends and regulatory changes in the maritime industry, and competitor advances in the maritime data market
- If required, attend client meetings as a subject matter expert alongside sales and product management, and present to senior management
- Foster collaboration and share information with other in-house data teams, to optimise the quality of our data
What we are looking for:
Essential
- Experience with common data analytics software and programming languages (Python/R and SQL,) and proven experience in analysing complex data sets
- Proven ability to lead on and deliver large-scale, long-term data projects
- Experience of collaborating with technical stakeholders (data engineers, developers etc) to deal with technical issues in a timely manner
- Ability to compile concise training methodology, to simplify the complex, and to tailor your delivery to all types of audiences is essential.
- At least 5 years’ experience in data analytics, business intelligence, consultancy, or research
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Maths / Physics / Finance or equivalent numerate qualification
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good command of English verbal and written communication
- Demonstrable ability to work under pressure and manage several tasks simultaneously
- Strong time management skills and ability to produce high quality content within set deadlines
- Strong internal & external stakeholder management is required in this role, and confident presentation skills for internal and external audiences
- A flexible, inquisitive, can-do attitude with the ability to manage several ongoing tasks at any one time
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues or peers, and delivering technical training
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Desirable
- Comprehensive understanding of the maritime industry & related data
- Innovative and dynamic approach to problem-solving and proven success in implementing data, research and content improvements
- Experience of working with Big Data and the ability to manipulate, model and analyse diverse datasets for use with analytics techniques
