Role Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented Tool Designer to develop and optimize high-precision tooling, jigs, fixtures, and dies for our automotive manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure all designs meet Tier 1/OEM quality standards, optimize cycle times, and support the launch of new vehicle programs.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development: Create 3D models and 2D detailed drawings for automotive tooling, including assembly fixtures, welding jigs, and metal stamping dies.
Technical Analysis: Conduct GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure component accuracy.
Process Optimization: Apply DFM (Design for Manufacturing) principles to reduce material waste and improve production efficiency.
Collaboration: Work with CNC machinists and toolmakers to troubleshoot design issues during the fabrication and "try-out" phases.
Documentation: Maintain rigorous version control of design specifications and Bill of Materials (BOM) within PLM/ERP systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years in tool design specifically within the automotive industry.
Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in CATIA V5/V6, NX (Unigraphics), or SolidWorks.
Technical Knowledge: * Deep understanding of automotive materials (high-strength steel, aluminum, composites).
Strong knowledge of welding processes (Spot, MIG/TIG) and assembly line automation.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tooling Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
