Job Title: Category Manager - Biomedical Procurement

Job Summary
Own end-to-end procurement and lifecycle management of biomedical equipment across all facilities, including capital sourcing, installation, maintenance contracts (AMC/CMC), and replacement planning. Ensure equipment uptime for clinical care while maintaining full compliance with medical device regulations, radiation-equipment licensing requirements, and healthcare accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Equipment Procurement
- Develop and execute the annual capital equipment procurement plan across diagnostic, surgical, monitoring, imaging, and clinical technology systems.
- Lead competitive tendering processes, evaluating vendors based on technical suitability, regulatory compliance, service capability, and commercial competitiveness.
- Translate clinical and operational requirements into detailed equipment specifications in collaboration with clinical department heads.
- Negotiate purchase agreements covering pricing, warranty terms, installation requirements, training, and after-sales support.
AMC & CMC Contract Management
- Define AMC/CMC scope, service levels, uptime commitments, response timelines, and spare-parts support requirements.
- Monitor contract performance across facilities, ensuring adherence to uptime targets, preventive maintenance schedules, and breakdown response commitments.
- Maintain a centralized AMC/CMC register covering contract validity, renewals, service history, and cost benchmarks.
- Drive contract renewals and vendor negotiations to ensure optimum service quality and cost efficiency.
Equipment Lifecycle & Replacement Planning
- Maintain a network-wide biomedical asset register capturing equipment age, utilization, maintenance history, and end-of-life status.
- Develop annual replacement plans for ageing and obsolete assets in collaboration with clinical, engineering, and finance teams.
- Support procurement and commissioning activities for new facilities, specialty expansions, and technology upgrades.
- Coordinate equipment decommissioning and disposal activities in compliance with biomedical waste and environmental regulations.
Cost & Savings Management
- Deliver annual cost-saving targets through competitive sourcing, strategic negotiations, and lifecycle cost optimization.
- Track capital expenditure and AMC/CMC costs against approved budgets and savings targets.
- Provide regular spend analysis and financial reporting to the Head - Procurement.
- Identify opportunities to optimize total cost of ownership across biomedical assets.
Vendor Performance Management
- Monitor performance of biomedical OEMs, service providers, and technology partners against agreed SLAs.
- Track equipment uptime, preventive maintenance compliance, service response times, and issue resolution effectiveness.
- Escalate recurring vendor performance concerns to the Head - Vendor Management & Contracts for corrective action.
- Provide vendor performance data, benchmarking information, and commercial inputs to support central contracting and empanelment decisions.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure all biomedical procurement activities comply with Indian medical device regulations, import licensing requirements, radiation-equipment regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain complete documentation for medical devices, imported equipment, radiation-emitting systems, and regulatory approvals.
- Coordinate with clinical, quality, and engineering teams to manage equipment recalls, safety alerts, mandatory upgrades, and regulatory inspections.
- Support internal and external audits through comprehensive documentation and compliance reporting.

Educational Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- MBA (Supply Chain Management / Hospital Administration / Operations) preferred.
Relevant Experience
- 6-10 years of experience in biomedical equipment procurement, biomedical engineering, or clinical technology management within hospitals, healthcare providers, or medical device organizations.
- Demonstrated expertise in capital equipment procurement, AMC/CMC contract management, and biomedical asset lifecycle planning.
- Strong knowledge of Indian medical device regulations, registration requirements, import licensing procedures, and radiation-equipment compliance.
- Experience working closely with clinical stakeholders on equipment specification development, evaluation, acceptance testing, and commissioning.
- Proven track record of managing vendor relationships, delivering cost savings, and ensuring high equipment uptime across healthcare environments.
