Designation- GM/SR GM – Technical (Battery Recycling, Smelting & Alloying)
Location: Mundra, Gujarat (Group Role – Responsible for All Units)
Department: Technical Excellence / R&D / Process Engineering
Reporting To: Director
Experience: 15–30 Years ...
Industry Preference: Lead Recycling, Smelting, Alloying, or Non-Ferrous Metal Metallurgy
Role Overview:
The Vice President – Technical will be the principal authority for all process, product, and metallurgical aspects of the Group’s recycling and smelting operations. The role is strictly technical — focusing on process design, standardization, yield optimization, quality enhancement, and new product development (NPD).
While production and operations teams will handle day-to-day plant activities, they will function strictly within the SOPs, process parameters, and quality standards defined and approved by the VP–Technical.
This role will drive technical innovation, process improvement, and product development across all units, ensuring alignment with international standards, sustainability goals, and the Group’s long-term vision for LME registration and global competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Process Design & Optimization
· Develop, document, and standardize process parameters for all smelting, refining, and alloying operations.
· Define and approve SOPs for rotary furnaces, refining kettles, casting, and pollution control systems.
· Analyze process data and yield trends to identify improvement areas and corrective actions.
· Lead trials on fluxes, additives, and alternate fuels to improve recovery and reduce slag lead %.
· Establish process control limits for consistent quality and cost efficiency.
·
2. Product & Alloy Development (NPD)
· Design and develop new alloy compositions as per market and customer requirements.
· Supervise metallurgical testing, validation, and documentation for new grades.
· Coordinate with the QA/QC team for mechanical, chemical, and performance testing of new alloys.
· Maintain a central technical database for all product formulations and process parameters.
3. Technical Governance & Standardization
· Define uniform process standards and ensure implementation across all units.
· Approve and periodically review SOPs, Work Instructions, and Process Control Sheets.
· Audit process adherence at each plant and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
· Introduce advanced process monitoring systems and digital data logging for key parameters.
4. R&D, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
· Lead the group’s R&D initiatives on improving lead recovery, reducing energy use, and minimizing emissions.
· Evaluate and implement new technologies such as automated control, continuous refining, or improved baghouse systems.
· Benchmark against global best practices and propose technology upgrades.
· Drive initiatives related to circular economy and sustainable metallurgy.
5. Quality & Metallurgical Excellence
· Define metallurgical standards for each product and ensure strict process control.
· Guide laboratories on sampling methods, testing frequency, and analytical accuracy.
· Correlate process parameters with end-quality outcomes for continuous learning and refinement.
· Support quality teams in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for product or process deviations.
6. Technical Documentation & Knowledge Management
· Maintain updated process manuals, PFDs, SOPs, and material balance sheets.
· Build a central repository of technical data, test results, and R&D outcomes.
· Ensure intellectual property and confidentiality for proprietary process innovations.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and EHS teams to ensure technical adherence.
· Support Procurement in evaluating raw materials and flux specifications.
· Assist Projects team in design reviews and technical evaluations of new equipment.
