Job Title: Erection and Commissioning Technician (Solar Plant)
Location: Gujarat
Key Responsibilities:
Erection:
- Site Preparation: Assist with site surveys, layout verification, and preparation for module and structure installation.
- Electrical Installation:
- Perform DC and AC electrical wiring, cabling, and terminations for modules, strings, inverters, and other components.
- Connect PV systems to the electrical grid, adhering to relevant codes and standards.
- Install grounding and lightning protection systems.
- Route and manage conduits and wiring to ensure neatness and compliance.
Commissioning:
- Pre-Commissioning Checks:
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of all installed components for quality, integrity, and adherence to design drawings.
- Verify all electrical connections, fuses, and circuit breakers.
- Perform continuity checks on cables and wires.
- Verify earthing and lightning protection systems.
- Testing and Troubleshooting:
- Execute various electrical tests, including IV curve testing, open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current (Isc), insulation resistance, and polarity checks.
- Configure and troubleshoot commercial PV inverters, 3-phase electrical meters, and industrial communication and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) (e.g., using RS-485, Ethernet, fiber).
- Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical systems, modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment.
- Use plant control and monitoring systems to remotely diagnose problems and monitor project performance.
- Understand and critically evaluate electrical testing documentation.
- System Activation & Performance Validation:
- Assist with the energization of the solar PV plant.
- Monitor system performance and validate power output against design expectations.
- Support commissioning engineers during various stages of commissioning.
- Perform routine calibrations after installation.
- Documentation:
- Accurately record all inspection findings, test results, and commissioning data.
- Mark up "as-built" drawings and ensure documentation is updated and passed to relevant personnel.
- Prepare and submit reports on system performance and maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance:
- Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, including Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, especially when working with medium to high voltage.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards on site.
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, electricians, sub-contractors, and other team members.
- Provide excellent customer service and educate clients about system operations and basic maintenance.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, regarding project progress, issues, and solutions.
- Assist other disciplines and vendors where work scope overlaps.
Qualifications:
- Education: ITI / Diploma
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on experience in solar PV installation, electrical work, or a related field.
- Prior experience in the erection and commissioning of commercial or utility-scale solar plants is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) systems, including modules, inverters (string and central), and racking systems.
- Proficiency in electrical wiring, cabling, and termination techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
- Familiarity with various electrical testing equipment (e.g., multi-meter, IV curve tracer, insulation tester).
- Understanding of industrial communications (e.g., Modbus RTU/TCP, Ethernet, RS-485).
- Basic computer skills for monitoring system configuration and data analysis.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and plant control systems is a plus.

- Ability to stoop, stand, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods.
- Full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
