TITLE: Mechanical Designer 3REPORTS TO: Group Leader (Mechanical) with technical oversight by Chief – Engineering (MIL-IEC)<br />POSITION SUMMARY: The Mechanical Designer 3 position requires providing conceptual and detailed design<br />of systems & components used during project execution of industrial plant design.<br />SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:<br /> none<br />DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:<br /> Be proficient in the use of AutoCAD software and related Autodesk products, and utilize CAD software to<br />create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant.<br /> Layout of plant equipment, piping, and utility systems. Able to plan and execute work based on higher<br />level task assignment from others, including engineers, project controls, and senior staff.<br /> Utilize P&IDs to design piping routings, and check designs from others.<br /> Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from engineers and senior designers to develop the details<br />necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field,<br />design analysis, etc.<br /> Able to create bill of materials for fabrications where needed.<br /> Able to collaborate with outside consultants or subcontracted engineering firms for project tasks.<br /> Travel to job sites to perform analyses of existing equipment, piping routes, layouts, etc. for use in<br />developing future plans, proposals, etc.<br /> Travel to fabrication facilities to perform mechanical inspections of equipment and adherence to designs<br />and tolerances.<br /> Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and<br />functions.<br /> Perform checking of mechanical drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design, sketches, etc.<br /> Assist senior designers and engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results<br />of the design. Able to develop capacity to perform basic design calculations as part of design efforts, and<br />learns to anticipate problems such as high stress, overloaded fasteners, thermal growth issues, need for<br />movement compensation, and the like.<br /> Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward<br />building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties<br />involved.SKILLS/ABILITIES:<br />Required:<br /> Experienced in discipline drafting with capacity to plan own design work<br /> Developing broader knowledge of designs and systems<br /> Proficient in discipline specific software and design procedures, developing capacity for basic design<br />calculations, and capable of checking detail design by others.<br /> Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.<br /> Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.<br /> Ability to plan work to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.<br /> Ability to observe & advise field erection activities including supplying technical and installation<br />assistance for mechanical systems used in DR and/or steel industry<br />Preferred:<br /> Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering.<br /> Developing broad knowledge of mechanical designs and equipment used in various industrial<br />applications, with growing knowledge of Midrex technology & designs.<br /> Ability to understand P&ID’s for use in piping design and drawing checking.<br /> International travel experience.<br /> Industrial plant experience.<br />EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:<br /> Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or piping discipline<br /> A minimum of 8 years up to 14 years experience in an industrial or technical environment. Experience in<br />the steel or petrochemical industry is a plus.<br />TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:<br /> Up to 10% International and Domestic based upon project demands<h3>experience</h3>15
