Designation: Project Engineer - EPC / Capital Projects
Location: Khopoli, Maharashtra
Department: Engineering & Projects
Reporting To: Head - Projects / General Manager (Engineering)
Position OverviewWe are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Engineer with a strong background in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) execution to join our Engineering & Projects team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for end-to-end technical coordination, package engineering, and site execution for process plant expansions, greenfield/brownfield projects, and major CapEx initiatives.
This role acts as the central technical nexus between EPC contractors, detailed engineering consultants, procurement/SCM teams, vendor equipment manufacturers, and site construction teams. You will drive project packages-including chemical reactors, boilers, pressure vessels, utility systems, electrical/instrumentation setups, and piping networks-from detail design through to commissioning.
Key ResponsibilitiesEPC Package Management: Lead and coordinate assigned engineering packages (Mechanical, Piping, Electrical & Instrumentation, or Process Equipment) throughout the project lifecycle-from basic engineering design to mechanical completion and pre-commissioning.
Engineering Review & Interface: Review and approve EPC contractor design deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, equipment data sheets, and structural/piping layouts for code compliance and operational feasibility.
Procurement & Technical Evaluation: Prepare Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), Material Requisitions (MR), and Scope of Work (SOW) documents for critical engineering items (reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, electrical switchgear, boilers, and specialized glassware). Interface with SCM to align vendor selections with project cost and schedule constraints.
On-Site Construction & Erection Supervision: Coordinate and supervise EPC contractors, sub-contractors, and equipment vendor specialists on-site. Oversee civil foundations, structural erection, piping fabrication, equipment positioning, and electrical hookups.
Progress Tracking & Schedule Control: Monitor EPC schedule baselines, project S-curves, and progress against milestones using SAP and project planning tools. Proactively identify schedule delays or interface bottlenecks and implement mitigation plans.
Vendor & Contractor Management: Ensure third-party vendors and EPC partners fulfill quality control protocols (Inspection Test Plans / FAT / SAT) and deliver equipment to site as per technical specifications and project deadlines.
Safety, Quality & SAP Documentation: Maintain project documentation, technical queries (TQ), and engineering change management records. Leverage SAP (PS Module) for PR/PO creation, budget tracking, and project progress reporting. Enforce strict EPC safety protocols (EHS) on site.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering. Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, IPMA) or EPC project training is a strong plus.
Experience: 5-8 years of hands-on project engineering experience within an EPC contracting firm, detailed engineering consultancy, or process manufacturing industry (Chemical, Petrochemical, Fine Chemical, or Pharma).
