We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Purchase Engineer / Trainee Purchase Engineer to join our Purchase & Supply Chain team in Pune. The incumbent will support procurement of Raw Materials, Capex items, Indirect materials, and Packaging, working closely with the Assistant Manager - Purchase and plant operations. This role is an excellent opportunity to build expertise in strategic sourcing, vendor management, and SAP-based procurement within a world-class manufacturing environment.
Position: Purchase Executive
Description of main tasks:
A. Raw Material & Indirect Procurement
- Execute purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, and indirect items as per approved requisitions.
- Monitor inventory levels daily and anticipate shortages; trigger replenishment to avoid production disruption.
- Coordinate with inward inspection team for quality verification and timely return/replacement of defective materials.
- Maintain accurate Material Master and BOM records in SAP.
B. Vendor Management & Development
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new vendors following Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) framework.
- Conduct vendor performance reviews on quality, delivery, price, and service metrics.
- Negotiate pricing, credit terms, and delivery schedules with domestic and global suppliers.
- Maintain updated vendor database and assist in contract / rate-contract management.
C. Capex & Project Procurement Support
- Assist in procurement of Capex items including machinery, equipment, spares, and civil/utility materials.
- Float RFQs, compare techno-commercial offers, prepare comparative statements, and seek approvals.
- Coordinate with project teams, finance, and logistics for timely delivery and GRN.
- Support documentation for statutory compliance (GST, import duties, MSME certifications, etc.).
D. Cost Control & Reporting
- Track procurement savings and report monthly to the Purchase Manager.
- Assist in preparation of purchase MIS reports, spend analysis, and supplier scorecards using MS Excel / Power BI.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, import substitution, and alternate sourcing.
E. Cross-functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Finance, and Logistics teams to align procurement with plant requirements.
- Support WCM (World Class Manufacturing) initiatives and continuous improvement projects related to supply chain.
- Participate in internal audits, purchase process reviews, and supplier audits as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering or MBA SCP/SCM
Experience
- 4 - 6 years of experience in Purchase / Procurement / Supply Chain in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to Raw Material procurement in the insulation, foam, chemicals, or specialty materials industry preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Capex procurement or project-based buying is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SAP (MM module) for raising POs, GRN, and vendor master management.
- Advanced MS Excel - pivot tables, VLOOKUP, spend analysis, cost comparison sheets.
- Working knowledge of Power BI or any reporting tool for procurement dashboards.
- Familiarity with WCM / Lean / Six Sigma concepts is a strong plus.
- Understanding of GST, customs duties, and import/export documentation.
