Civil Engineering Jobs

Civil engineering is one of the oldest disciplines of engineering sciences and among all the branches, its range and application are the broadest. The construction of houses, palaces, dams, canals, highways, and stadiums has been spearheaded by talented civil engineers in the country.

India is a hub of budding engineers and civil engineering jobs are in abundance today. The country’s real estate and construction sector is the second largest employer of civil engineers after agriculture. Currently, the industry contributes 9% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). It reached a record-breaking statistic of INR 2491.03 billion in the second quarter of 2018. The sector is expected to develop at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.16% till 2021.

A total of USD 349.9 billion has been allocated to essential upgrades in the country’s infrastructure in 2017’s financial budget. Rapid urbanization necessitates an upsurge in the construction of modern infrastructure. Road building alone is expected to see an investment of USD 13 billion over the next five years. The sector has also received a boost from schemes such as Smart City Mission and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transportation (AMRUT). While the Smart City Mission will funnel a whopping amount of USD 7.2 billion for infrastructure development across 100 cities, under AMRUT, the government plans to upgrade 500 cities by 2022.

The construction sector is all set to add an additional 32 million jobs to the existing 45 million. Affordable housing initiative is alone expected to create a 38 million workforce by 2030. Owing to the economic growth the country is experiencing, the demand for civil engineering jobs is expected to rise over the next few years.
