Rubber Jobs

India is one of the leading producers and consumers of natural rubber. The annual production varies between six to seven Lac tonnes which amount to INR 3000 Crore. Escalating foreign exchange reserves, rapid expansion in FDI flow and capital market, a stable growth rate of 8-9% per annum, and an increase in the automobile production have augmented the growth of the rubber industry. Over 90% of Indian’s natural rubber is produced by the state of Kerala. The rest of the acreage falls in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Mizoram, and Assam and over four Lac hectares of land is used for plantation.

With the manufacture of around 35,000 different rubber products, the rubber industry in India had quite an impressive turnover at USD 12,700 million in 2015-16, where the tyre sector contributed USD 7600 million, the non-tyre sector accounted for USD 5100 million while the rest USD 2300 million came from the exports. About 7000 manufacturing units are currently operating in the non-tyre manufacturing sector which comprises of moulded goods, foam products, footwear, auto and cycle parts, gloves, extruded rubber goods, hoses, etc. An approximate of 90% of these manufacturing units are micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and contribute around 40% of the country’s rubber exports.

The current size of the rubber products industry in India is estimated to be USD 10 billion. A 5% increment in the exports of rubber goods, powered by non-tyre rubber products has helped the industry gain a steady pace of growth of 10%. Soon, the size of the industry will reach approximately USD 11 billion.

The All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) is the non-profit organization that promotes and safeguards the interests, growth, and development of the rubber industry in India, particularly the MSMEs. A dearth of around two Lac skilled workers in the industry has urged the Rubber Skill Development Council (RSDC) to employ certified manpower in rubber jobs in association with the AIRIA.
