Jobs in Education

The education sector is a booming business today. Be it school or university education, India’s love for education isn’t going to see a decline in the near future. This means that the education industry will continue to expand, giving rise to more and better-paying jobs in education.
India is a key player in the global education industry. With over 850 universities and over 42,000 colleges, we have one of the largest networks of higher education institutions in the world. Over 30 million people were enrolled in higher education institutes in 2016-17 and over 3 million people were directly or indirectly employed by the education industry.

The education sector in India is estimated at INR 6 trillion in FY18 and is expected to reach INR 7 trillion in FY19. It is expected to witness major growth in the years to come as the Indian Government looks to support the education sector even further. Currently, India’s higher education system is the one of the largest in the world. Over 35 million students enrolled in universities per financial year. India has also managed to create additional capacity for over 70 million students. The country has become the second largest market for e-learning after the US, garnering over 9.5 million users.

Several steps are being taken by the Indian Government like opening new premium institutes such as IITs and IIMs in different locations. Increased allocation of educational grants given to research scholars is also a positive move for the sector. This will not only help create more jobs but also improve the number of institutes that offer high-quality education in India. Furthermore, several educational organizations are more than ever using online modes of education, starting with coaching institutes to colleges. The higher education sector in India is likely to see major changes and developments in the next few years. The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) is one of several campaigns undertaken by Ministry of Human Resource Development to enhance the spirit of national integration through a deep and structured engagement between all, union territories, central ministries, educational institutions, and the general public.

With such favourable numbers to back those, education jobs are more desirable than ever. Among Indian cities, salary trends suggest Bengaluru’s dominance when it comes to pay packages. The city offered the highest average CTC at INR 14.64 lac per annum, followed closely by Mumbai at INR 14.24 lac per annum in 2016-17.

Bengaluru also topped pay at the senior level with an average CTC of INR 28.08 lac per annum. Mumbai came in second at INR 27.06 lac per annum. At the junior level, Kolkata topped the list with INR 5.72 lac per annum while Bengaluru followed with INR 5.46 per annum.
